Oh my dear, I’m in the same boat. I always think, “Man, if I just had better materials…” but the truth is the lack of “much better” has made me develop the great form of improvisation.

I use cheap brushes, ink, and acrylic paints (sometimes even crayola markers!) on any flat surface that can absorb it. I went through a period last year that I was only doodling on cardboard. Everyone thought it was a “thing” of mine but really… I had just moved and had tons of cardboard that needed an artistic recycling option.

Sure it would be nice to have fancy tools but I simply can not afford it but I’ll be damned if that’s ever stopped me. You keep using those colored pencils, man. Beautiful things have been done with them, here’s one of my favorite colored pencil artists: Danny Brito
